THE INTRODUCTION Good afternoon, my name is Kyle Stangl, and I will represent the State of Maycomb on this very important case. On November 21 1935 Sheriff Heck Tate was accused of poor investigation and documentation. THE THEME AND THEORY People of the Court, this case is about a man who lets greed get the better of him. The investigation occurred because the Sheriff thought he could protect a friend but just lead to someone dying. PARTIES Ladies and gentlemen, this statement will go over the evidence of how Sheriff Heck Tate let greed influence how he investigated the case with Tom Robinson and Mayella Ewell. EVIDENCE Atticus said ¨Did you call a doctor sir? Anybody call a doctor¨ ¨No sir¨ said, Mr. Tate (Lee 190). This piece of evidence shows that Heck Tate did not investigate right because if he did then he would have called a doctor for Mayella's bruises. Sheriff Heck Tate says,¨ Oh yes that would make it her right. It was her right eye, Mr. Finch (Lee 192). This evidence shows that Mayella had all the bruises on the right side of her body which means Tom Robinson would have to use his left arm, but his left arm was useless because he got it caught in a cotton gin. BASIS OF GUILT On November 21, 1935, Tom Robinson was accused of beating and raping Mayella Ewell because Sheriff Heck Tate had a poor investigation of the case. A fact showing that Heck Tate was doing poor investigation was he never called a doctor when he showed up at the scene. Another fact about how Heck Tate investigated poorly is Tate confirmed it was Mayella's right eye that had a bruise on it so that means Tom Robinson would have to use his left arm, but he couldn't because he got it caught in a cotton
