How would you feel if you were left on an island all by yourself for years to come, with no one but animals? Well, in the book Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’ Dell, the main character, Karana, has to overcome and figure out what she is going to do after being stuck on an island all by herself. Karana is very persistent because she never gave up no matter what came in her way, she had a lot of courage to do things, and she was also a very determined person because she wouldn’t stop until she figured something out, or until she got something she wanted or needed. Seeing there was nobody on the island with Karana, she had to make an animal friend, so she made friends with a wild dog which she called Rontu. Rontu soon became Karanas best friend. She made spears, bows, and arrows, which she used to catch fish and hunt other animals. She also caught abalone. She also had to make a shelter when she first got stuck on the island that was safe and would protect her from anything. She had to survive on this island for eighteen years, until finally one day a ship came, that wasn’t there to cause trouble. She got on the ship and went to a safe place where she would soon live. The people on the ship told her that the people from her island didn’t make it to land.
