The story of Romeo and Juliet is probably one of the best-known plays that William Shakespeare wrote. It follows the story of two lovers from different houses that try to live a life together, but their story is cut short when they both sadly died. Now Aristotle theorized that “One’s fate is determined in part by hamartia, or fatal flaw, or by one’s own errors.” (Flow, Erin, Does fate Control Our Actions or Does Man’s Free Will?) If Aristotle’s theory were correct, then there could have been hundreds of actions from different characters that could have caused Romeo and Juliet’s death in the final act of the book. Although, you may ask, who was the main reason that Romeo and Juliet ended up dying? This in fact is Juliet, whether it's her just …show more content…
There were more than eight steps involved with this plan that included drinking a potion, faking death, sending letters across town, and even going into a coma for over 40 hours (about one and a half days). Is obvious that one of them was bound to fail in one way or another. In the end, the failed step was one of the simplest steps, sending a letter to Romeo telling him the plan and that Juliet was not …show more content…
Paris. Paris was not planning to marry Juliet for another two years but because she was so steamy, he and Capulet decided to push up the wedding so that it would be held in four days! Paris even says that he “would that Thursday were tomorrow” (Shakespeare, 1993) saying that he would marry her tomorrow and not even wait four days. If Paris never did this Juliet would have never been forced to marry Paris and the lovers never would have tried to escape out of Verona to escape the wedding. Now, some people believe that Friar Laurence was the reason for Romeo and Juliet’s death. They say the two never would have gotten married if Friar Laurence did not promote the love and married them together. They also think that He was the reason the plan failed because he had someone deliver the letter to Romeo and trusted someone else rather than just doing it himself, as well as helping produce carry out the plan. While some logic backs this claim, it is just not quite right. This is because Romeo and Juliet would have never gotten married if Juliet had not fallen in love with Romeo in the first place and Romeo would not have fallen for Juliet if she were not so gosh darn hot. While I do agree that Friar Laurence helped with the plan and might have been the reason it failed if Juliet never agreed to carry out the plan it never would have gone wrong because it never would have
