Warren G. Harding was the 29th president of the United States in office from March 4, 1921 to August 2, 1923, and he was born November 2, 1865 in Blooming Grove, Ohio. Harding was a Republican who originally served in Ohio Senate then in the US senate, and has been given a very low ranking from historians because of his many scandals and corruption during his campaign and presidency. During his election Harding used leading advertisers of the time and was the first presidential election to use modern advertising techniques. Harding’s motto was “return to normalcy”, and he won the election with the largest popular vote landslide in US presidential history with 60% to 34%. Warren G. Harding campaigned with a strong isolationism ideal which was perfect for a nation coming out of WW1 that was a very much European conflict. He also tried to appeal to nativists whose nativism movement was seeing a strong resurgence at that time. When it came to foreign policy Harding appointed Charles E. Hughes as Secretary of State and he worked on peace with Germany and the states of that area with a series of treaty’s ratified in 1921. The main foreign policy accomplishment of Harding’s presidency was the Washington Naval Conference which was a global conference to limit the armaments of the world powers navy’s. All the great powers shrinking their navies and the ability to avoid conflict in the Pacific.
