What is the cause for Romeo And Juliet’s Death? Most of us know the tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, but do we really know who or what caused it? For those who don’t know, Romeo & Juliet is a play written in 1591 by William Shakespeare. The play takes place in the 1400’s in the city of Verona, Italy. There is two feuding families, the Capulets and the Montagues., whose feud has shed the blood of not only the two families, but of other innocent people. The play focuses on two characters, Romeo, the only son of Lord & Lady Montague and Juliet, the only daughter of Lord & Lady Capulet. The feud between the families is overall, pointless in the long run and only results in violence, give Romeo & Juliet a good reason to kill themselves, even if indirectly to end the feud. The feud, as I said technically results in all the deaths in the play, a few of the deaths include: Mercutio, a neutral character, but prefers Montagues over Capulets, Tybalt, a character whose hatred and cult-like love of the Capulets (due to the way he was raised) is captured perfectly in this quote: “What drawn and talk of peace? I hate the word as I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee.” (Act 1 Scene 1, Lines 71-72) This quote shows that the feud makes people bloodthirsty and irrational, to the point of hating the very idea of peace. The feud itself is hated by the rest of the city of Verona, as all it causes is violence, as shown is this quote: “Clubs, bills and partisans! Strike! Beat them down! Down with the Capulets! Down with the Montagues!” (Act 1 Scene 1 Lines 74-75) This quote shows the citizens of verona are clearly annoyed with the feud, and want it to end, even if it is necessary to kill the Montagues and
