It could be argued for just about any character is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths, some more than others. At a single glance, it may seem clear who is responsible for their deaths, but when taking a closer look into things, it may not be that clear. It could be argued that Benvolio is the one responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death. When Romeo was whining that Rosaline didn’t love him back, it was Benvolio that told him to look for other women to potentially be his love. This is the reason Romeo found Juliet. This is not only because their deaths were both suicide, but because they both could have not done things that would have changed the course of their fate. Romeo could be at fault for their deaths, as it was his mistake of committing suicide right next to Juliet that caused Juliet to end her own life. If Romeo had not given up on Rosaline, the entire story of Romeo and Juliet would not have happened in the first place. If Romeo had not killed Tybalt, despite losing his best friend, he never would have been banished. If Romeo had never killed Tybalt, Capulet would not have forced Juliet to marry Paris. If Capulet had not forced Juliet to marry Paris, Juliet would not have tried to fake death, and Romeo would never had committed suicide. Juliet can also be viewed as the cause of their deaths, as if she had not married Romeo, they would not have ended their lives out of love. If Juliet had not tried to fake death, Romeo would not have thought that she was dead, and Romeo never would have committed suicide at the capulet
