This play is about an old married couple that have guest over, the whole night they play various games, but there is a greater message which you find by digging through the information given so you can understand what the story is talking about. Edward Albee was frequently considered a well-crafted realistic analysis of modern condition. Edward Albee in his early works was reflected on a mastery and americanization of the theatre of absurd. George and Martha both portray paganism as they symbolize there identity, Martha believes that she is the earth’s deity because she believe’s her life has been so imperfect and pointless since she had disloyalty in her life “I am the Earth Mother”(Albee 199). As Martha believe’s that if she is the earth’s mother people would respect her since she the the presidents daughter of the university and people do respect her such as Nick and Honey. George symbolize a much bigger image which is history, as George is part of the history department he plays a big role which connects to paganism and how George hates democracy in the play because as Martha was telling the story of how George killed his family, Martha becomes the witch who is on hag mountain and is the Walpurgisnacht and soon later becomes the demon in this play. As this all relates to George, he soon does the exact thing as Martha does when Nick, Honey, and Martha are dancing. George plays this game called get the guest were he tells this story of how Nick married Honey for the money and Nick also married Honey because he thought that Honey was pregnant.
