Why are you motivated to pursue this position?
I believe making a positive difference to the lives of others especially children is one of the most rewarding things a person can do. Furthermore, being able to coordinate, organise and reach out to others to do the same would be an amazing and unique opportunity. Having been a peer mentor in the first year of Victoria’s gifted outreach program, tutoring maths and science to primary school students from disadvantaged schools in rural areas, I truly believe that I could use my experience not just for one on one work with students but to also coordinate this growing Leo’s program. Some of my key experiences within the crazy last few years include being a peer mentor, social service captain, a monash scholar leader, table tennis state team captain and foster puppy carer.
I have developed my interpersonal skills and reliability via working at my local salvos shop, turning up every weekend and interacting with customers. Being a peer mentor and scholar leader has also immensely improved communication and the ability to motivate and encourage other students to participate and enjoy themselves. One of my most favourable characteristics which I believe are suiting to this position is also the ability to inspire trust in others to play for the championships or to come to that last training session with a smile. My qualities include reliability and consistency in terms of communications and meeting deadlines/expectations. I have had to develop these traits whilst working as a volunteer and working a casual job at the local pharmacy. These positions also helped with my organisational skills(I make killer spreadsheets and rosters haha).
