Why College Athletes Shouldn't get Paid Would you like to get a money or even a full-ride to college? Many athletes who are recruited to play college sports, do not have to pay a dime to go to college. I remember the first time I talked to a coach about maybe receiving a scholarship. It was a very exciting thing for my parents because they knew that I would not have to come out of college in debt. I could even use the money my parents had saved up for college for something else such as starting a business or even a new car. Many people want to put students on a salary instead of a scholarship, allowing the athlete to choose what they spend their money on.
