Shays’ Rebellion Essay Shays’ Rebellion was when a group of farmers protested against the government shortly after America gained its independence. Although these farmers rebelled against the government, nevertheless they stood up, aimed to help country, and their actions had lasting effects affecting the government. These protesters stood up against the government. It is important to realize that “ the people who have stepped up to demand rights for themselves and others are most likely to be put in jail.” These jails they were put in were often far away from their homes.
They had all the control over the religion and the government. The plebeians were everybody that wasn’t a Patrician. They had little to no voice throughout imperial Rome’s history. In both classes the oldest male was the head of the families. Women had no rights during this time and the people were Christian.
Roman civilization is said to go as far back as 625 BC and continued throughout history as a strong territory. Early Rome was ran by kings. This lasted until the king that went by the name of Tarquin was overthrown by the people of the city. The Roman Nobility took over power and were called the Senate. Rome was now known as a Republic and would remain until a man by the name of Julius Caesar came to power in 60 BC.
Patricians were landowners and plebeians were citizens but not landowners. Patricians would vote for senate, who had law making powers. Plebeians elected the assembly, who had advisory power. In the U.S. everyone over 18 is able to vote, whether you are a landowner or not.
Rome started as a republic and ended as a dictatorship. The empires in Rome were the world's greatest empire. These empires started around 750 BCE. Around 200 BCE the Greek empire was weakening and Rome was getting stronger.
The kingship (or monarchy) would be represented by the consuls, the aristocracy by Senate, and democracy be represented by the assemblies. By complementing one another, this would ensure that the government would work efficiently without having any party rising to sole power. The effectiveness of this government was so overwhelming, even Polybius admitted that this led to “nearly the whole world fell under the power of Rome in somewhat less than 53 years – an event certainly without precedent” (Polybius, VI.
Although one of their best ideas was known as the type of government they established what is now known as the republic, and since then it has been copied by other places, the united states uses and has similarity to roman republic. The U.S government is based partly on the model of Rome’s. the parts and similarity’s that we still use today are things like citizenship, legal code, legislative branch /senate, and others. The republic all started when the romans finally overthrew the Etruscan conquerors they had around (509 B.C.E) once they were free the romans came up or established the republic, a government were the citizens picked a representative to rule on their behalf. The concept of Citizenship in Rome was that males of ages 15 or older, that came from original tribes or places of Rome became citizens.
They evolve, grow, die off, improve. Many things change over time, people, population, even the world. One of many things that evolved over time is the government. From settlers, to a colony, to a revolution, sprouted a government [the United States of America (U.S.)]. This young government, new to the world has many things to learn.
In 509 B.C.E. the Romans had taken back their own rule that the Etruscans had maintained for Decades(RR). A republic was formed after the Romans were in control again that gave the people a say in how the state was run(RR). Many countries had copied this form of government including the United States(RR). The Romans also had the three branches of government. The executive legislative, and judicial branch.
In the early years of the Republic, only patricians, who were members of the noble families, were allowed to hold political office. This led to a long struggle by the plebeians to gain political power, which was eventually granted through the creation of the office of the Tribune of the Plebs. Another undemocratic practice of the Republic was the exclusion of women from political power. Women were not allowed to vote or hold political office, and they were generally relegated to the domestic sphere.
When considering the framework of ancient times and current forms of government, and considering its limited representative elements, Rome remains an outstanding example of a successful ancient government. People were divided into different classes. Patricians were wealthy citizens of Rome. When the Roman Empire started to grow and Rome became a powerful city, top government position became more and more popular. Therefore, more and more ambitious men got involved in government.
Patricians are the higher class and they are wealthy. Also, they are the only ones allowed to be in the government. Their percentage of the population is a small junk of Rome. To be a patrician, you had to have been given birth by a patrician. Now the plebeian on the other hand is every other person in Rome.
That was a form of direct democracy. Rome also had an established religion for the people to follow that was supported by the government. Rome’s Rule of Law that they came up with, created a organized
The General Assembly and Senate established a sense of importance in Rome. The General Assembly was made up of Plebeians, and the Senate consists of Patricians. The terms General Assembly and Senate are two of many terms still used in the US Government today. The Romans were led by a king who was approved by the senate and a vote of the people, which is also displayed in the US Government. This is displayed in our presidential elections.
The Roman government had many bodies, The Senate was a body which had 300 members, the senate was a political institution in the ancient Roman Republic. It was not an elected body, but one whose members were appointed by the consuls, and later by the censors. Various popular assemblies in which all citizens voted on laws and elected officials. Officials were called magistrates, who put the law into practice, governed in the name of the senate and people, and acted as priests. The point when the most recent ruler was taken out by two magistrates known as consuls.
