Why Did I Read How Did We Get The Bible?

Reading about where the bible came from and all the differences between Bibles we now know about, was a new learning for me. Growing up in a catholic church I was taught only from the Catholic Bible and read only reading and gospels from that Bible. I was taught to believe in only what that Bible stated and nothing else. Other Bibles or versions of other Bibles were never brought up to me. It is interesting to know that there are in fact many different Bibles and many different versions of the Bible. “What sometimes distinguishes these Bibles isn’t the words of the Bible itself, but the notes that are provided by scholars to help people understand the text that they are reading.” (Carvalho 15). This is interesting to me because I feel as if everyone intercepts readings in different ways. …show more content…

From reading “How did we get the Bible?” in the text by Carvalho, I now have a better understanding on how the Bible was put together and where all the stories in it came from. The Bible is a collection of different books, called the Torah, translated to “teaching” or “law” which is known to be the core for every Bible in many religions (Carvalho 19). A part of the reading that applies to our contemporary world is how all the Bibles are connected by the New and Old testament. For instance, the Jewish Bible contains the Old testament, while the Protestant and Catholic Bible contains the New and Old testament (Carvalho 17-18). It is interesting to me that many other religions share very similar beliefs and even follow some of the same parts
