There were many reasons the U.S. entered war in 1917, but I believe the U.S. was two years too late. I believe the U.S. should have entered the war as a partner with the Allies in April of 1915 when the Lusitania was sunk. Germany had been provoking the U.S. for a while, and to me, this should have been the last straw. Germany sunk the Lusitania without any warning, killing many passengers, including 128 Americans, and a heavy military load. This act violated many maritime laws and showed Germany was truly ruthless. This act was a good enough reason for the U.S. to enter for the sake of freedom and democracy.
