There are six elements Goodsell describes about how bureaucracy contributes to politics. They can generate funds for government, sustain and believe in the various agencies’ missions, contribute to the election process that encourages democracy, have federal agents who have the ability to influence policy making, organizations that foster improvements in social status, and promote involvement in community organizations. Without bureaucracy, the institutions and ways of life we have come to expect from our government would be diminished and ultimately, hinder Americans. In the final chapter, Goodsell describes how effective government in America is in supporting the democratic way of life. Issues against bureaucracy like waste and incompetence, will unfortunately always be present but are usually less common than we think.
Bureaucracies were established to be an extension of the government, whereas they execute a specific task or tasks. They act as the agent in a principle-agent relationship because they carry out the request or commands of the government (principle). Through administrative adjudication and rule making, bureaucrats play an essential role in establishing laws, hence making them a powerful entity when implemented correctly. Furthermore, the legitimacy of a bureaucracy can be confirmed by being a liaison to the legislative branch. Federal regulations are in place to ensure establishments adhere to the rules set forth by the government.
A Nation state is built off of capitalism which is run by two parties: the absolute political party and the absolute economic political party. The political party serves the economic political party by creating and enforcing laws to benefit them (Al-Madani 2015). In order to sustain the political party, it has to maintain it’s critical resources which are controlled by the economic party. The economic party is run and controlled by corporations owned by individuals (Al-Madani 2015). This same system circulates through corporations.
They are in a generation where they accept the logic of organizational power in short being a conformist. Even though a bureaucratic system is obvious in our government today we are still not made aware of it specially its complications and its consequences. Up to this date we still experience complications in a bureaucratic government also in a bureaucracy mandated business. Bureaucracies are defines as a type of organization that allows for the cheapest goods and services through specialization of jobs and clear rules for making decisions. Many use this term to describe the federal government’s administrative organizations and employees. However, although highly unexpected from the writers of the Constitution, our federal bureaucracy has become massive. Due to this, a system has to be put in place to regulate these organizations. The government decides the amount of production and usage that they want which means that the goods and services can be produced in the quantities the government thinks best for the society. Government has the rights to change the price of goods and services. This means that where the production is controlled by a monopoly, customers will not be charged at higher prices in order for the monopoly to obtain higher profits. However one of the disadvantages of this economy is that there is no freedom of choice for producers or consumers. Hence, lack of incentives for workers resulting in low efficiency.
