Today I will be talking about the holiday we call Halloween. Halloween is where we all dress up in costumes and get candy from houses on the thirty first of October. Here are three things about halloween. First, I am going to be talking the history of halloween.
Celebrate Halloween with Pumpkins, Costumes, and Candy by Deborah Heiligman is a non-fiction book that is part of the Holidays around the World series created by the author and explores how people from different countries celebrate Halloween as well as some of its history. The text, published by National Geographic and recommended for children 6-9 years old, explores various aspects celebrated across the world including local folklores, foods, games and costumes. In addition, the book explores Halloween origins behind our favorite traditions such as carving jack-o-lanterns and trick-or-treating, using inviting language that is accompanied by definitions for words that may be unfamiliar to small children. Also, instead of drawn illustrations,
OT2100-Week Five -Religious Identities Paper The journal article that I found through OhioLINK on the significance of Deuteronomy 6:4 is titled “Between Text and Sermon” by Sue Lowcock Harris. Sue Lowcock Harris is the co-pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Howard County. In her article on Deuteronomy 6:4-9, she presents the different approaches to preaching Deuteronomy 6.
That is how I look at Halloween. Unfortunately here in Latvia they are not into this holiday and only children at school dress up but afterwards don’t go trick or treating and young adults enjoy going a bit crazy in the pubs in Riga. In the U.S. it is common to see carved pumpkins most everywhere and in some other parts of the world as well. There are also gourd-like orange fruits that get carved with ghoulish face and illuminated by candles.
Schools Shouldn’t Implement a School Dress Code Across the Board? Edith Head once said “you can have anything you want in life if you dress for it.” This quote is relevant because students should have the ability to choose what clothes they wear to school. Many students believe that schools shouldn’t implement school uniforms. There are three reasons why schools should implement a school uniform.
Originally, Halloween was a day in western Europe where people would put offerings outside of their door steps to ward off evil spirits, Santino said “There was belief that it was a day when spirits of the dead would cross over into the other world.” In other cultures, it is a day to celebrate and to remember those who have died. Santino said that on Halloween, it gives kids to play with the
Many kids have changed because of dress codes and because of wearing uniforms. In this, I feel like many kids are being changed by dress codes and uniforms. I think schools shouldn’t have to have a dress code and a uniform because dress codes and uniforms are a bad idea to have in schools. Many people find dress codes and uniforms offensive.
Some kids eat too much candy and start to feel sick so they call home and miss school and even though they might not be sick. Also, students may not want to stay in school and they will miss out on learning new things. This is the final reason why we should not celebrate Halloween during school. These are the reasons why I think we should not celebrate Halloween during school.
Do you think Halloween should come twice a year. I think it should. You would get a lot of exercise. Also, you would be able to get two costumes a year. But the best one is when you are done with that Halloween you can look forward to the next one.
Does your school celebrate Halloween? My school doesn’t and I’m kinda glad about that. There are many reasons why schools shouldn’t allow Halloween celebrations. Kids could steal other kids candy, students may eat too much candy and get sick, and some students might feel left out because they do not celebrate Halloween.
As September comes to an end, October begins which means for many it is time to start preparing for Halloween. Halloween is a holiday that can be enjoyed by people of all ages; from kid to adult. Stores start stocking up with candy, decorations, and most importantly the costumes. Halloween is a time where anyone of any age can dress up as anyone or anything that chose to be. With the internet forever growing, the infinite possibilities for creating the ultimate Halloween and finding that impeccable costume to purchase that goes above and beyond is out there.
Should we have school uniforms? it’s hard to think that something as little as wearing school uniforms could help in how a student learns but if you think about it, it affects a lot of things. People think applying school uniforms restricts a students freedom of expression. However it is rather weak argument. Uniforms do not take away a students right.
