To better understand the history of the two holidays, we should look at where it all first began. An ancient Celtic festival of Samhain about 2,000 years ago was when Halloween was first created. This celebration took place on October 31st and it marked the end of summer, the harvest and the beginning of winter. During this time, winter resembled a cold and dark time which was often
The things people did earlier in time on Halloween is to have a festival to say that summer's over. The other thing is that the doors open to let souls into our world. There are so many beliefs of the history of halloween like for dead souls to get revenge on their enemies before they move on to the next world. Before the pumpkin people used radishes. They carved the radishes like we carve pumpkins.
Today I will tell you about the history of Halloween, facts about Halloween, and and the state and how they celebrate Halloween, I will teach you about how they celebrate Halloween. Please enjoy the easy. The first thing I will be teaching you about China, the history of China. The Chinese said to believe that the dead will come to the earth.
The holiday of scaring people is so fun. Telling spoke stories and trying to make someone scared is so fun and, it’s been around for so long time why would someone do that to the people of the U.S. and just take what someone in the past have created. Kids love Halloween, first off they like candy, they love to dress up and, they love walking around. Halloween is
Halloween The misunderstanding of Halloween is an odd and confusing holiday. This confusion is the result of miscommunications through generations of the original meaning of the Holiday over the years. The origin of Halloween commenced over 2000 years ago as the Celts, which was a Celtic God of the Dead. The Celts would build large barn fires to scare away the evil spirits and make sacrifices for receiving good crops in the coming year.
The ritual of Halloween can be traced back two millennia, all the way to Europe. It began as the “ancient Celtic festival of Samhain … in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France” (“Halloween 2022”). They celebrated this festival on October 31 (“Halloween 2022”). Samhain “…
Do you think schools should celebrate Halloween and let the kids dress up? I don’t think we should celebrate Halloween at school. It wouldn’t be fair for the people who can’t celebrate Halloween. I will be talking about why Halloween shouldn’t be allowed to be celebrate at school.
Trick or treating should not have an age restriction because no one can tell you when you exactly stop being a child. Our brains fully mature at the age of 21 so in between the ages of 9 to 21 you could still have the behavior and likings of a child. Taking away trick or treating for teens who still enjoy the adventure is preposterous, adolescents only have a certain amount of time to be kids it’s not fair to take what little childhood they have and make them turn into adults when they already have their whole lives to be adults. Therefore trick or treating should not be taken away.
However once your a bit older you can't go out and Trick or Treat anymore, or you look creepy. Although you can't go and get candy from strangers you can buy your own candy. Somtimes that's even better than going Trick or Treating because you can buy your favorite candy. I also love eating candy and other foods with my friends on Halloween. My friends and I can get super fat and not feel bad about it.
I remember when I first came to the United States one of my professors had divided us into groups in the classroom on Halloween. They then gave each group a pumpkin and told us how to carve it. This was new for many of us and we had never done something like this before because no one in my culture celebrates Halloween. It was new for many of us and we did not know what to expect. I think that the teacher did a good job introducing us to Halloween, it was surprising but they presented the holiday in a way that we could enjoy it while feeling comfortable.
In the late 1800s, the Halloween was molded into a holiday more about community and neighborly pieties about ghosts, pranks and witchcraft. For both children and adults, Halloween parties had became the most common way to celebrate the day. Parties focused on games, foods of the season and festival customers. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Halloween lost most of its superstitious and religious
Today’s society certainly doesn’t celebrate Halloween for the same reasons as it used to be celebrated. During the ancient times it was a day to rid of the evil spirits and scare them away. It was not a day for fun, and definitely not a day for trick or treating. When people thought of Halloween, they thought of the end of their summer, the end of their harvest, and the start of the dark winter. Individuals thought of this day as a spirit filled day.
The best part of a holiday is the treats and traditions young and old individuals get to participate in. Among these sweet filled holidays is Halloween, a day to please the sweet tooth, stay up late, and support America’s holiday tradition. Since the 1940’s Halloween has been a highly-celebrated event in the year, which makes it perplexing that schools don’t care to give at least no school on the day where young souls wake up from eating large amounts of candy and staying up late gathering it. The school board has stressed the importance of academic success and plead for students to have a good breakfast and get enough sleep, but they’ve forced us to go to school right after we’ve supported our country by celebrating one of the most popular holidays, Halloween.
Halloween is a holiday that is originally believed to have started with Celtic origins as the holiday Samhain in which people would “light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts” 1. The tradition of lighting bonfires has ceased in the modern day but the practice of wearing costumes is still popular and is what Halloween is known for around the world. In America, people associate Halloween with the practice of trick-or-treating in which kids go knock on doors around their neighborhoods saying “trick-or-treat!” in the hope that they will receive candy.
WIIFM Statement: Most people today celebrate this holiday. If you chose to dress up, or hand out candy, or even just use it as an excuse to have a big party. But most people have no idea how it originated and why it is so big today. Credibility: I have celebrated halloween ever since I was born. My parents would dress me up when I was a baby and I would pick out my costumes every year after.
