High youth unemployment is not as bad as most think it is. When teens aren’t working in the summer they are in the classrooms learning. In Derek Thompson’s essay, “Teenagers Have Stopped Getting Summer Jobs --- Why?” ,he talks about how teens are in the classrooms rather than getting jobs. Thompson supports his claim that students are staying in school instead of getting jobs by asking rhetorical questions and using logos by showing graphs and other statistics. In the first half of his essay Thompson presents his claim that teens aren’t working as much, not because they are lazy but because they are taking more summer classes.
Teenagers love money. However, the problem with earning money is that kids are too busy to get a job. Or a job is not enough money for their needs, especially in this changing economy. Jeffrey Selingo, in his piece “Why More Teenagers and College Students Need to Work While in School,” argues that more kids should work while pursuing their education. He expresses the importance of finding time for a job, and that making money is not the only thing teenagers gain from a job.
Implementing this duty at such a young age makes these tasks seem regular to the child. This is clearly shown in Jeannette Walls's The Glass Castle. At age 13, when Jeannette is left home alone for two months to take care of her younger siblings; her mother gives her $200 to pay for expenses. When first given the money she focuses on paying for utility bills and food. Jeannette comes up with a well organized budget plan to finance themselves.
She says that a job is for working to earn money for a living. Chores are something that is done to keep the house neat and clean. Megan’s mom says, “Now if you want to earn some pocket money to spend on going to the movies or saving up for an iPhone, you certainly can. How about babysitting the neighbors or becoming a lifeguard.”. This is a suggestion for Megan to have a way to earn
Have you ever thought about why you don’t get paid to do chores. My parents get paid to do their job so why don’t I. Kids need to get paid to do chores and work around the houses. Kids do a lot of work and do not get paid to work. In the article Should Kids Get Paid to Do Chores Megan says, “This plan will make your life easier.”
Some people may think kids should get paid for doing chores, Megan’s argument why kids should get paid for doing chores was it teaches them responsibility. ”I will also learn responsibility…another benefit is that I will learn how to manage my money” (Megan 26). Yes, money will teach kids responsibility but another part of responsibility is doing something not for money but because it’s your duty. Getting rewarded for you done is childish; to illustrate when a child does something good like do their homework or be nice to others than their parents and teacher will reward them with a treat or toy. Thus, kids shouldn’t get paid for doing chores.
Chores are something that many kids think they should get paid for. Although chores are something that has to be done whether you get paid or not. I strongly feel that kids shouldn 't get paid for things that should already be getting done. If no one vacuumed the carpet or scorned the toilet or took out the trash the house would get filthy fast. Chores are simply something that should be done whether you get paid or not.
Can schools pay kids for good grade? Many people will believe that students should not get paid for good grades, because it sends the wrong message, paying students for good grade is basically, a job and this can lead to countless practical problems. First of all, students should not be paid for good grades, for it sends them the wrong message. For example, in a video Ms Herbert shows
June 15, 2013- “the night that would change the lives of 10 parents for the rest of eternity. Troubled teen, Ethan Couch, speeding down the road drunk at excessive speeds over 70 mph, struck a vehicle pulled off to the side of the road, fatally taking the lives of four teenagers”(Valiente). If the United States Government had permitted the consumption of alcoholic beverages at a lesser age such as age 18, students would have more of an idea of the effects of drinking, allowing them to navigate through the hardships embedded with drinking alcoholic beverages at a lesser age, rather than binge drinking, risking their health problems, to prove their “coolness” or “toughness” to their peers. Underage drinking is a major problem within the United
Almost any child would work hard for cash. Those are some reasons why kids should get paid for good grades. First of all, students should get paid for having good grades because money for grades provides real, career-like rewards. Hers is a quote from a website called GreatSchools.org. “ Cash for grades programs may jump start motivation by providing real world rewards for their effort and performance.
My opinion is that children should be paid to do chores around the house. For instance, if kids were to get paid for chores they would learn how to manage their money. When the kids get older they will have already learned how to save money by spending a little. Kids parents now days are always stressed out from their jobs and everyday problems. If the parents would pay the kids to help, the parents wouldn’t have so much cleaning to do at home.
This shows that it is of the utmost importance to have kids experience hard work from a young age because then they are able to gain the necessary skills and traits, such as discipline, a hard work ethic, and confidence, to overcome future hardships, thereby helping them mature faster rather than having to do so when they are near adulthood. Now as a teenager myself, I can confidently state that hard work has been crucial to my life. For instance, most of the memories from my earliest years consist of doing chores that in hindsight were not hard
According to the article “Should Kids Be Paid For Chores?” it states in the text “Another benefit is that I will learn how to manage my money - and appreciate what I buy”. If you pay your kids an allowance they will stop begging you for money, they get the object they wanted with their money that they worked hard for. If they buy the object they will value it more, I buy stuff with my money and I take care of it like it’s a newborn puppy because I worked hard for the money it helps teach us kids
When considering the choice of paying students for good grades and not paying students for good grades, the choice should definitely be, students should not be paid for good grades. Paying students for good grades may start off their youth incorrectly. Instead of focusing on getting an education, the reward of money is likely to block their priorities. Students will be angry when not given the money, and not being able to raise test scores or grades. In order for a bright and successful future, students should not be paid for good
