Courtney Stawarz says, “Sports are important, I understand that. However, Elizabeth Kolbert has a valid argument.” She says, while Americans tend to put more emphasis on sports rather than learning, it is not the children that are at fault. She sees how sports are related to grades being you have to make sure you are eligible to play. Children have to watch their grades in order to be able to play sports in schools.
“What do you mean?” ” Parents are paying for their kids to go to school and get an education, but they view it as going to school to participate in sports and get an ‘okay’ education along the way. Throughout, Kolbert argues that sports are praised more than grades, and I agree because it shown daily in the hallways of any high school. Athlete at times are only worried about a bad grade because it could’ve meant a punishment during practice or even less playing time.
According to " The Case Against High-School Sports" (2013), sports could create some study, health, and time management problems for schools and students. In this post, Amanda Ripley initially shows the benefits when involving in the high-school sports: exercise, sportsmanship lessons, some positive personalities, more fun and staying away from vices. She also writes some tales to inform readers that in the US, students are interested and enjoy in sports more than other peers in other countries. However, she claims that the high-school sports have negative effects on schools and students. Next, she gave some schools ' examples to show the problems when schools and students spent too much time and money in high-school sports.
In fact, playing sports help raise the GPA's of some students. Many students are satisfied with receiving D's because they do not have any incentive to get better grades. If an athlete were to
Throughout Gould’s article he includes data and research to prove a point that High School sports can be beneficial for the youth through increased educational aspirations and even increase social skills within adolescents. Even though most of the research has a positive outcome there is a chance of it having negative effects. In the third paragraph Gould continues on how the issue concerning winning in the sport participated can cause academic success to be forgotten about. He makes it clear that winning is not unimportant
In the articles “The Secret Life of Tiger Woods” by Wright Thompson and “Are parents ruining youth sports?” by Michael S. Rosenwald both concept the sacrifices one has to take to be an “elite athlete”. I firmly believe that the sacrifices taken to become an “elite athlete” are not ultimately worth it in the long run because of the injuries and health management. To support this, the author from “The Secret Life of Tiger Woods” proclaimed “...he fell down in his backyard without a cellphone and had to just lie there until his daughter happened to find him.” This quote the type of pain Woods lived through because of all his intense golf training. Furthermore, in the article “Are parents ruining youth sports?”
College sports are a major part of American culture. College athletes devote hours upon hours a week to their sports training, but unfortunately, sports can take up a lot of time and distract from other important activities. This can harm academics, as athletes have to balance sports and academics, especially at a college. Participating in sports is almost like working a part-time job and having to balance school too which can be difficult to do, and focus may be rendered on one task and not both. Furthermore, athletes will be on scholarships too, which is why college athletes should not be paid.

Many people believe that students that are involved in a high school sport affect their grade and test scores. At most high schools in America, sports are very popular and an important role in a student’s school years. High school sports have a positive impact on students and schools everywhere. Students have a better chance in succeeding in school while playing in a high school sport. First, high school sports are positive because it has great impact on both the student’s education and sports participation.
This notion is supported by Dr. Daniel Gould, who believes that “Children who participate in sports have increased educational aspirations, closer ties to school and increased occupational aspirations in youth” (1). People against the funding of high school sports think that parents and society are placing more emphasis than ever before and, “[P]ressures athletic personnel to deviate on winning from the athlete- centered educational and personal development mission” (Gould 1). However, athletes strive to do better in class. Michael Lorenc, a high school basketball coach believes that “those who seem to have an overwhelming schedule where they’re playing maybe multiple sports, and high academic schedules, they tend to do better than those who don’t do anything extracurricularly” (Gray). Balancing sports and school makes athletes put more effort into keeping up grades while playing the sport they love.
The risk that High School athletes are put at when they step out on the field or court may have gotten too far. High school athletes are put at risk the second they pick up that jersey or even sign up for a certain sports team. Student athletes are not just put at risk by physical injuries they also suffer from mental health conditions and disorders. Studies have shown that 15%-21% of high school athletes suffer from depression which is double the rate of American adults and 22% of male and female athletes suffer from mental health conditions. These athletes do these things on a daily basis so they deserve to earn income from their performance.
The stress can get so intense, it feels paralyzing. That’s why it is important than ever for schools to invest in their athletic programs,” states the sports article “Should Schools get rid of Sports.” Schools should keep their sports programs because they help improve academics, help improve mental and emotional health, and improves social skills like being on a team. Schools should not get rid of their sports programs because they help with student’s academics.
Did you know that depending on the sport, students who play sports in college most likely have less than a 2% chance of becoming professional athletes? At middle schools, high schools and colleges across the country, everyone is arguing over whether or not students with failing grades should be allowed to play sports. In my opinion, a good education is so very important for our country’s youth, especially the athletes. Not a lot of kids are good enough to play in the top college sports programs in the country. But even those who are, still have an astonishingly low chance at making the professional leagues.
It's a cruel world where money towers over hard work and skill. I know that if you are the best in the world these factors will not affect you. unfortunately, we live in a cruel harsh world where not everyone can be the best. And this is when sports can really drive a young kid's life into
The author Thelma Gomez, says “Playing sports is an important elemen5t in the lives of many American children.” And she is correct. Sports can make kids the next David Wright, the next LeBron James, the next Eli Manning, or the next Lionel Messi. The best part of sports is that you're improving your physical health, psychological health, social skills, and academic benefits. Physical and phychological health can benefit a child in many ways.
