Why does the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) exist even though there are always issues with immigration and terrorist acts? CBP exists “To safeguard America's borders, thereby protecting the public from dangerous people and materials while enhancing the Nation's global economic competitiveness by enabling legitimate trade and travel” (“Mission Statement”). Without the border, entry between the United States and Mexico would be in utter chaos. They had a large amount of success with the operation. It served as deterrence to illegal border crossers in hopes that it would stop crossers from crossing the border illegally and hope that they would seek the proper way of becoming an American citizen. .
