For many years, people have feared gangs because they feel like they are in danger when they are around gang members. They would feel safe if gangs were put to a stop, but that would be very hard to do. Individuals can do things to ““avoid contact with gangs in their community”( ”(Youth 6). If a minor encounters a gang member while out on the street alone they should tell an adult that they trust. An adult can protect the child if the gang member tries to do anything to them. One thing that can trigger a gang member to do something to somebody is if that person is wearing gang colors. Doing illegal things is what gang members are known to do and if they see an individual doing these things they will want to try and get them to join their gang. People shouldn't be doing drugs or drinking alcohol because this is one of the reasons why so many they have joined gangs in the first place. Drugs make people feel good and make them believe that they are capable of doing things that they shouldn't be doing without getting caught. It makes them do things that they may regret later on in their life. Drugs and alcohol can put their life in danger without them noticing. People can drink they just have be responsible about the things they do while they are under the influence. Teenagers can do fun activities instead of drinking or doing drugs. Doing fun activities will help them take their mind off of drinking and drugs. These activities may also help them with their performance in school.
