For over fifteen years I have enjoyed being an LPN. Working in nursing homes taught me to how to patience and how to use my knowledge to help my patients to the best of my ability. My time as an alcohol and drug rehabilitation nurse helped me to appreciate the courage it takes to admit to a problem, ask for help and the strength it takes to work to get better. Working in a hospital taught me to how to work in a fast paced setting while keeping my sanity intact.

In 2008, I graduated from NorthCentral Technical College with my Associate Degree in Nursing. As I completed my studies I worked at Memorial Health Center as an ER Technician and then after completing my first year, as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the nursing home portion of the facility. I was proud of myself, as was my husband, that I was able to work and complete my studies, along with raising 4 children. At that time, I contemplated going on to school for my Bachelors in Nursing, but due to the children, work, and mounting bills from attending school for the past two plus years, I needed to work more full time to make some money for the family. The profession I have chosen to pursue is that of a Physician Assistant. My reason for this selection is because it gives you the independency of a Physician while having somewhat less responsibilities. A Physician Assistant provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician. Some of these services include but are not limited to examining and treating patients, diagnosing illnesses and counseling patients. In some case physician assistants are also tasked to prescribe medicine to patients.
Healthcare has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother has been a Certified Nursing Assistant for over twenty years. My passion for healthcare comes from watching her care for others family members over the years. Although I did not know what career I wanted to pursue, I knew early growing up that I was destined to work in healthcare. I became fascinated with helping others early in life.

My Future Career, Nurse Practitioner A nurse practitioner is a nurse with a graduate degree in advanced practice nursing. When I was little I always said I wanted to become a nurse practitioner. It was something about being able to help patients overcome their illnesses that interested me the most.
Nursing At 21 and with only one year of medical assisting experience. I figure it was an okay job. After all, I was getting paid more than minimum wage. Initially going into a trade school for fast pace and expensive learning that is what I wanted more money in little time requirement.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.
Why do I want to become a nurse? Nursing, the one job everyone says that is so fulling, and will change your perspective on the world forever. I wanted to be a nurse since the time I was 10 years old, because I saw what they do for others every day. Becoming a nurse was so important to me because, I wanted to do something in my career that is interesting, challenging, and makes a difference in people's lives on a daily basis.
As a child, I dreamed of acquiring a career in Nursing. I was always fascinated by the amount of respect that nurses received during my doctor visits throughout my childhood.
