In 2008, I graduated from NorthCentral Technical College with my Associate Degree in Nursing. As I completed my studies I worked at Memorial Health Center as an ER Technician and then after completing my first year, as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the nursing home portion of the facility. I was proud of myself, as was my husband, that I was able to work and complete my studies, along with raising 4 children. At that time, I contemplated going on to school for my Bachelors in Nursing, but due to the children, work, and mounting bills from attending school for the past two plus years, I needed to work more full time to make some money for the family. Rose Normal school. It was a school designed to prepare religious sisters to teach in elementary schools. As the school progressed, it introduced college courses in 1923 and was developed to offer a four year college program, and in 1934, St. Rose Normal School was renamed St. Rose Junior College. In 1937, the school was again renamed, and it became Viterbo College. At this time, it continued as a school for the religious sisters until 1943 when it started to admit lay women. Men were not admitted until 1971. Graduate programs were introduced in 1987 and on September 4, 2000, the school was again renamed to Viterbo University, which it is currently known as. It continued to grow and in 2013, the first doctorate program was introduced, offering a Doctor of Nursing.
Since the start of the university, the traditions have not changed. They maintain the core values of contemplation, hospitality, integrity, stewardship and service, which coincide with the ethnicities of the Franciscan founders. These core values were one of the aspects that attracted me to the university to complete my education. I believe that these values can enrich my educational experience.
