CLS is the catalyst for my future endeavors. Since I have started undergraduate I have been striving to become fluent in the Arabic language. The CLS Program would help me develop my skills and get closer to reaching my first goal. The Arabic skills I gain will continue to improve through graduate school and will help me build a foundation to eventually work in the Middle East. I plan to continue to Arabic classes in graduate school and build my regional knowledge. Once I gain a better grasp of the language, I plan to turn my knowledge into a career. My professional goals are tied to my ability to learn the Arabic Language. I want to either work for an NGO or IGO in peacebuilding and negotiations in the Middle East or for the Intelligence Community in Washington D.C. Either way Arabic is one of the skills I need to master to be able to truly work on a deeper level. I think knowing the language of the region is an important step in showing how serious you take the country’s culture and customs. I plan to go to graduate school for either International Affairs or Security Studies. The region of the world I wish to focus on is in the Middle East for either program. I am determined to either work for a Non-Governmental Organization dealing in conflict resolution or for the Intelligence Community in the United States. I have two majors, Global Studies and Religious Studies, and three minors, Arabic, Conflict Resolution, and National Security Studies, all in the hopes that I will be a strong candidate in whichever field I peruse.
