CLOs (Core Learning Outcomes) and the CLA+ (Collegiate Learning Assessment) are two requirements for the Freshman Seminar course. Both requirements were designed and created to assist college students, so students can improve their academic performance and gain more opportunities in the future. CLOs are skills that are necessary in college courses and future jobs. Some of the skills included in CLOs are communication skills, information literacy, and reasoning skills.The CLA+ is a simple assessment that measures certain abilities: critical thinking skills, problem solving, scientific and quantitative reasoning, and writing. Other skills are tested as well. The CLA+ helps students, future employers, hiring companies, and the university. Core Learning Outcomes and the Collegiate Learning Assessment are important tools that ensure success in both college and life beyond graduation.
Core Learning Outcomes are important and useful skills that will allow students to learn different information and abilities. FSU`s CLOs also suggests that the university desires for students to know different skills that will improve their perspective of their individual fields, and develop their global awareness. The outcomes can lead students to become better and responsible citizens. The core learning outcome that I find most relevant is communication skills. Communication skills are vital in today's world and job market. Employers want people who can communicate effectively in their writing and speaking. As a person who wishes to become successful in any field, I must become an eloquent and effective
