Ida Tarbell: Making a Difference in the World From breaking the rules to mending them, Ida Tarbell has played a crucial role in making the world a better place for businesses, workers, and citizens. She always fought for what she believed in and wrote the truth about the world surrounding her. Ida would stop at nothing until she found the answers that she was looking for and wouldn’t let anyone get in her way. She was a fearless woman who didn’t let the rules of society hold her back. Ida was a great muckraker during the late 1870’s, and up until the beginning of World War II, in 1944.
Ever since I could remember, I have always dreamed of becoming a teacher. When I was little I would pretend I was the teacher and my friends were my students. For the longest time I wanted to get my degree in elementary education and become a second grade teacher. I loved working with younger children and second grade was my favorite year in school. However, in high school, I changed my mind.
Teaching can be challenging. Nevertheless, there is great joy and reward to be gained through committing to it and inspiring children to pursue their goals. Teaching will enable me to shape and empower the minds of the next generation by sharing my knowledge and skills. My A level studies are preparing me well for a degree in education.

Teaching is a big part of me as I have taught many of my friends and other students. I have used my talent as an artist to give life to the words and diagram in the textbook. I have used my art to help people visualize abstract thinking and understand different concepts, especially when it comes to chemistry, biology, and physics. Through the art, I have tried to make a learning more of a fun and challenging by using the ideas of everyday objects. Because art has a more flexibility when it comes to how it is presented, I have tried to include my art and animation in different presentations.

I selected the Road to Teaching because I have always enjoyed working and teaching children. I currently own my own in-home daycare and my background includes working as a pre-school teacher as well as mentoring teenagers. My 15 years experience as a public school educator has provided me with the experience that serve me well in this position. Why do people want to become teachers? There is low pay, long hours, little benefits, students have more rights than teachers. I want to be a teacher because I want to make a difference and change every child’s heart that I come into contact with. Statement of Purpose In the course of learning martial arts, I discovered that before I could ever defeat my opponent, I had to overcome myself. Doubt and fear can make victory impossible before a match even begins, and thus confidence building plays an indispensable role in training. However, confidence flows from perseverance and hard work. From the outside, people might think that my winning second place at the National Chinese Martial Arts Competition in Taiwan was my proudest achievement, but in fact the thing I take most pride in is that through martial arts I have acquired knowledge and traits that have prepared me for success in myriad other life ventures.
Growing up in a house with a mom who is an educator showed me the importance of education and spreading the love I have for teaching others and helping them grow as a learner. I grew up surrounded by classrooms from a young age. I would hang out in my mom’s room in the morning and after school while she worked. I loved going to school and never wanted to miss a day for any reason. I loved school because of the teachers and staff I had and I would love to be the reason kids love coming to school as well.
I am pursing a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I am passionate about education and excited to share the joy of learning with students. The perspective of wonder and sense of excitement that children bring into education motivates me daily.
