Equality, responsibility, and accountability are a few key values found in group work. Accountability grows out of responsibility and goes hand in hand with it. Just as responsibility is a derivative of authority, accountability is a derivative of responsibility. While responsibility is the obligation to perform assigned tasks, accountability is the obligation of reporting the performance. Attending meetings on time, accepting mistakes, and dedicating time to practice are all examples of accountability. In our lifetime, we will encounter situations that force us to hold other people accountable just like we hold ourselves accountable. Merriam-Webster defines accountability as, “the quality or state of being accountable; especially: an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions.” Accountability can be a touchy subject to some because it has been viewed as defensive. Deadlines are set as check points prior to the big day in order to ensure work is productively getting done. Without deadlines, people would procrastinate for as long as possible holding back the potential of a great outcome. By having tasks finished on a certain day, we can rate which ones are of greater importance and shift our attention to those. If and when we miss a deadline we not only hold back that task, but we pause the entire line. It would be unreasonable to keep moving forward when a task is not complete because that information will stay lost. Finishing required on or before the deadlines serves as a reward because we get to cross out one more thing. Deadlines are implemented on certain days that way if for some reason, a task is not completed there would be some cushion room. It does not mean that one should take advantage of the safe
