Why Is Australia Truly Democratic

The Commonwealth of Australia is one of the oldest and most stable democracies in the world. Although Australian’s are adamantly against/impartial to their democratic society and government with little regard or respect for politicians, Australia is indeed very democratic in how its society and culture operates. But why do you think we are ashamed to be a democracy? Australians don’t highly regard their democratic political beginnings because democracy was a “dirty word” and they were ashamed. In 1850 all states had their own constitutions, self-government and parliaments. However, only the wealthy landowners had the right and “qualifications” to vote. This changed when the House of Lords halved qualifications for male suffrage in Australia. Does anyone know or can take a guess what is meant by male suffrage? Male suffrage meant that men didn’t have to be wealthy or own land to vote. This

This goes against the Australian egalitarianism that all Australians are equals as citizens have to pay for the welfare of others, with the exception of Medicare. Egalitarianism was seen to have been perfected in Australia as everyone treated each other as equals. Australia is a democracy of manners first and foremost. The feel of Australian society that makes it egalitarian not the structure. The gap in wages is wide but when Australians meet they are treated as equal regardless of social status. This happened first amongst men but slowly, recently women have been included. Australian egalitarianism is against inequality and the disruption of authority as they recognize their military officer or boss has power but will only respect them if they use their power properly.
