Things aren’t always what they seem. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, there are lots of characters that have back stories that explain themselves, but a character named Aurther Radley is greatly mistaken because of rumors going on about him, giving him the nickname “Boo Radley.” Boo Radley, a boy who was very troublesome in his youth, had gone to many juvenile detention centers and had done lots of bad things. One day, his father had enough and he was locked in his home and could never go out. Years have gone by and people started to talk about how Boo Radley had stabbed his father's leg while cutting up some newspaper with scissors. Jem later finds out that Nathan Radley had filled up the hole with cement and said “Trees dying”. You plug ‘em with cement when they’re sick.” Jem finds out later that the tree isn’t sick and that the hole was filled with cement so that Boo Radley stops putting gifts inside the tree, which makes him and Scout very sad. Later in the story, there was a pageant where Scout had to dress up as ham and show up on the stage but she fell asleep and ruined it.
