Canada’s Economic System

Although Canada and the United States have a very close economic relationship, they each have differents types of economies. America uses a market economy while Canada has a mixed economy. While some people believe Canada should change to a market economy, I think that Canada should continue to use a mixed one. In my perspective, a mixed economy better represents who we are as Canadians and what we value. The benefits of a mixed economy are much greater than ones provided by a market economy. With the government having control, everyone is given access and it help archives what's best for all people in society. Though this means there are higher taxes, I think it is worth it because part of what makes us Canadian is that we value equity. It may feel like the government is taking more of your money in a mixed economy, but it is important to remember the benefits they bring. The higher taxes translate into more public services and more funding towards people in need, like seniors. Since Crown Corporations are government owned, they are indirectly influenced by normal citizens. This is because the government in Canada is publicly elected and need to have public support to stay on power. If a Crown Corporation does something unpopular and many citizens are against it, the government will probably have to fix it. A mixed economy prevents private companies from forming a monopoly and gives regular citizens a say in how their countries
