Miraculous gifts are an incredibly popular topic in the Christian world. Popular and highly debated. Many theologians believe that certain spiritual gifts have gone away and are no longer valid today. There are many others who believe that these spiritual gifts are still relevant and used today. These gifts include faith healings, working miracles, speaking in tongues and interpreting, and prophecy. Now, are these gifts still prominent in today’s Christianity? First off, this question shouldn’t raise any doubts of God still working miracles today. God still heals people, speaks to people, and does wondrous signs every day regardless of using us as a medium. The question that is at hand is more along the lines of the holy spirit and if He still gives these gifts out today. The main text in scripture is in the book of 1st Corinthians 12 through 14. The purpose is not to prove that miracles no longer occur. This is to put everything into the right perspective. “We must remember that God can do anything He wants, with anyone He wants, anytime He wants. There are plenty of modern day stories of miraculous events in which God obviously got directly involved in a situation. We need to be careful not to become pharisaical and say this is what God cannot do, what God can do, or what God must do, etc.” (Keathly) Miracles still happen, God is still working in and through us even today, but the question is whether or not people are going around performing miracles on their own, or receiving revelation from God or speaking in tongues.
