Gangs are good for young people. One of the reasons behind that is that it makes the members of the gang much safer. In nearly every gang, it is very easy to make some very good friends. In most gangs, there are no financial/money problems for the members.
Gangs make its members safer. Its members are usually all the time in pairs/groups and they all watch out for each other. If another gang tries to confront them, their numbers could beat the other smaller group. Even if a gang member is alone, being in a gang teaches them self-protection. Gang members are tough and if not, they learn to be so if one gets jumped, that person could fight back easily. The younger gang members won’t be bullied anymore if they are part of a respected gang. If someone from the group is being bullied (probably a younger initiate), the elderly will look out for the youngling and thus, scare away the bully. Gangs are usually together all the time which allows them to bond with each other. Everyone could always have someone who they could tell their secrets to because they have gotten along so well over the course of a while. When someone is alone and feeling bored or sad, that person can always call a friend to talk to. If someone is mourning the death of a loved one, they always have someone to let their emotions run wild in front of. After a while of bonding, it makes kids feel like they have a new/extended family. If they run away from home, or get abused, they always will have a type of ‘safehaven’ just until things cool down a little. In gangs, friendship is a vital part of the group because if friends are made, those friends can teach them how to survive on the streets.
