The Importance of Heroes A person who is idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, and their noble qualities. But does a hero have to be someone who helps people by giving money? It could be anyone from the young and noble man who smiles at you every day, or the middle aged lady who gives out food. We all define as a hero, in our own unique ways. Harriet Tubman for example, was a famous leader. A woman of color who fought for the rights of those who were discriminated for being a different shade. Following along the footsteps of King, Harriet Tubman spoke up to what she believed was wrong. Tubman with the doubt of having no education whatsoever, still overcame the obstacles she would face day-to-day. During slave saving Tubman knew if she used the same routes, soon the slave owners would find out. Therefore, Tubman would change up the routes every trip she took to save a slave. Communication from one slave to another was dangerous, and could have led to serious consequences if a slave was caught. Thus, the singing of secret codes began. Harriet would sing songs to other slaves that contained secret codes that would lead them to their safety up North. Songs that the slave owners had no suspicion contained the route the slave would take in their journey to freedom. The slave saving was a difficult job, and Tubman faced the exposure to being caught or told on. To ensure other slaves would not turn back and uncover her secret to their slave owners, Harriet carried a rifle she would threaten them with. Which would ensure the slaves would not turn back, and therefore her secret would be safe. It did not take Harriet years of education to successfully save other slaves.
