Harriet Tubman Harriet Tubman was born on March 10th 1913 in Dorchester county. She was one of the nine kids in her family. Harriet is famous for her accomplishment of leading over 300 slaves into freedom and back with their families.
Tubman was born a slave mother who works on the plantation. At age six she begins working as a weaver but gets moved to several different jobs over the years. Tubman's masters are very cruel to her. They force her and her family to work in the fields, which is difficult. She leaves working tired hungry and sore. When she was just twelve years old she was struck on the head with a two pound weight by and overseer, They meant to hit another African American but it ended up hitting her instead. After being struck she fell asleep suddenly many times a day for the rest of her life and endured seizures. If doing something their owners think is wrong they will get whipped and severely injured. Tubman and her family carry scars for the rest of their lives.

She found it from a white lady who informed her on her way to Pennsylvania. She helped over 300 slaves including her family members travel through safe houses. Just to be safe Tubman always carried a gun incase she ran into danger but she never used it because she felt “guilty”. The first slave she escaped was her niece. One of her most known travels was drugging babies to keep from crying and loud noises. Tubman knew that if any white people found out she was doing this that she could be severely punished but she did it anyway.
