Hazing is a sorority and fraternity based tradition that has been practiced since 387 B.C solely for admittance into their union. “Scholars from these universities used hazing practices…to determine whether a person was worthy of future employment” (Alverez 14). Hazing much like stoning in the lottery is both deadly and overlooked by society. For example, at the University of North Carolina a fraternity, “forced the pledges to sing and dance while standing on barrels. Rand fell off his barrel and cut his jugular vein, causing him to bleed to death” (Alverez 22).
