Multiple laws of life can be learned in a season of football. These contain persistence, teamwork, confidence, and respect. I was taught these laws by my coaches, and by my teammates. One day, at the end of practice, my coach told the team, “I’m not just teaching you to play football. I’m also shaping you into better people.” The first important value I’ve come across is persistence. Early in the season, I broke my thumb; it hurt a lot, and had to wear an orange cast if I wanted to continue playing football. The cast had to be wrapped with foam padding and covered in an abundance of tape so I couldn’t weaponize it. I hardly heard anyone say anything negative about my injury. If each player on the team thinks that they will lose in the game against their rivals, no matter how talented the players are, they’ll lose the game because the players on that team don’t have the will to win that game anymore. If each team member is confident that their team will beat their rivals, they will end up winning. To sum that up, the people with more drive and confidence in themselves will prevail. My team only lost one game. This was after a few offensive struggles, when most of our players gave up and lost their winning attitude. We ended up losing to Perry, who became the league champions. Finally, respect is an important value to have. Without respect for the coaches, the players would have no idea what was going on most of the time. Players must also respect each other. Without that, any concept of a team would be nearly impossible. This is a very vital view overall in my life.
