Many characters and things in different stories share a blame towards a conflict or ending in that story. This is revealed to the audience in the play when Lord Capulet states, “And you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets, / for by my soul, I’ll ne’er acknowledge thee, / nor what is mine shall never do thee good” (Shakespeare III, v, 194-196). This proves that Lord Capulet is to blame because these threats caused Juliet to go to Friar Laurence and seek help from him. This is important because it eventually leads up to the tragic ending of the play. Secondly, Lord Capulet is to blame because he forces Juliet into marrying Paris which makes her make decisions that she will regret later on such as going to Friar Laurence and seeking a way to get out of the marriage. This is shown when Lord Capulet announces, “Sir, Paris, I will make a desperate tender of my child’s love. I think she will be ruled in all respects by me; nay more, I doubt it not” (III, iv, 12-14). This proves that Lord Capulet is to blame because Lord Capulet could have respected Juliet’s wishes and she would have not tried to get out of the marriage. First of all, the family feud is to blame because it is the reason that the fights and anger between the Montague’s and Capulet’s happened in the first place. This is revealed to the audience when Tybalt, a Capulet exclaims, “As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee” (I, i, 66-67). This proves that the family feud is to blame for the fights between Capulet’s and Montague’s because without it they would not always be in constant anger toward each other. This is important because without the feud there would be no tragic events. Secondly, the family feud is to blame because it was the overall cause of the tragic ending of the play and without it Romeo and Juliet would not have died in the end. This is finally shown to the audience when Prince states, “Where be these enemies? Capulet, Montague, see what a scourge is laid upon your hate” (V, iii, 291-292).
