The Dixie Cup is might be one of the nicer memories we have of early school days or birthday parties when liquid refreshments were served in the small, disposable paper cup. Convenient, and sanitary, the Dixie Cup was invented by Lawrence Luellen, who saw the need for individual drinking cups to help arrest the spread of germs. Luellen's idea, along with a savvy marketing strategy, saw the Dixie Cup become one of the 20th centuries most timely and commercially successful inventions. While Luellen's idea of a disposable cup was still in the planning in 1907, the public was quenching their thirst at available community fixtures: wells, public water barrels, and pumps. However, only one vessel such as a tin dipper or cup was at their disposal
Racism has been an issue for years. In the past, African Americans have suffered through slavery, prejudice, and constant judgement. Racism has made them feel not equal and these issues are expressed in Drinking Coffee Elsewhere by ZZ Packer. Packer wrote this short story in 2003. Jessica, I disagree with you regarding Shania working with family. Once the roles are clearly identified, it shouldn’t be a problem for Kelsey and Shania to work together. Some families can work together in business relationships. They are sisters, however, once they begin working together, they will enter into an employer-employee relationship. According to Kubasek, Brennan, and Browne, it is one in which the employee is subject to control of the employer (Kubasek, Brennan, & Browne, 2009, pp.
Breville Barista Express Review What’s the worst thing in the world? An upset stomach? Having the new episode of your favorite television show spoiled for you? Unrequited love? All of those things are pretty terrible, but nothing compares in terms of awfulness to a bad cup of coffee.
Come Out or Not As Sandra Hughes-Hassell discusses in her article “Multicultural Young Adult Literature as a Form of Counter-Storytelling,” there need to be more stories that illustrate the oppressed young people’s struggles. One of these struggles is with sexuality. In the stories “Drinking Coffee Elsewhere,” by ZZ Packer and “The Alumni Interview”, by David Levithan, both protagonist’s sexuality impacts their love life, their education, and their relationships with the adults they encounter.

This drink originated in the Middle East, heavily influenced by Arabian culture. Over the course of many years, coffee made its way to Europe through trade and helped Europe to come out of its drunken and alcohol induced haze that has lasted for centuries. This, in of itself, is a huge impact to history, despite the fact that Europe had been drinking mostly alcohol for the past few centuries and the people 's initial dislike of coffee, the drink somehow managed to take over the Western World. Those who drank coffee instead of alcohol in the morning began the day alert and stimulated, rather than relaxed and mildly intoxicated, making the quality of their work better. Coffeehouses became a social center to discuss current events, philosophy and science.
The character I choose to write about is Dina in the story Drinking Coffee Elsewhere. The significant interpretive question that the story raise about the character is that why Dina decided to go to Yale in the first place? My scene takes place before the story where Dina is writing an application essay to Yale but due to fact on how she was raised and the experience she had with her abusive father and a alcoholic mother had a huge influence and affected her in a way that she seems to have a lack of confidence in herself. She was writing her application essay to Yale she didn’t have self confidence in herself that Yale will accept her. At the end of the scene she heard a voice of her mother telling her to believe in herself which help Dina build a little confident in herself.
