Papa John’s was founded in 1985 by 23 year old John Schnatter (Parnell, 2008). Schnatter believed that fresh ingredients created better pizzas, with this mindset John was able to become the 3rd largest pizza retailer in the world ( Parnell, 2008). There are some key factors to Papa John’s success; limited menu, consistency, and access. Papa John saw instant success when they came into the restaurant business back in 1985, Schnatter new that sticking to his values of fresh ingredients would keep consumers coming back. Papa John’s also has a limited menu consisting of pizza products and chicken strips (Parnell, 2008). A key fact that also helped Papa John’s was quick service and no dine features ( keeping overall operation cost down).
