When in Rome Rome has a better system than Athens in my opinion. Athens citizens have more responsibility and rights then Rome. Rome has more of a family oriented style of citizenship. Athens and rome both honored citizenship in their own ways equally.
Sparta was once one of the most important Greek city-states throughout Greece, famous for their military lifestyle. When you think of a Spartan warrior, you vision a man with huge muscles, red cloaks, long hair, and sharp swords. Spartan warriors were the best and feared fighters in Greece, they spend their whole lives learning new fighting techniques and serving their home, Sparta. At around six or seven years old, young boys would be taken from their homes to be trained as Spartan warriors.
Ancient Greece, a thriving country consisting of nearly 100 city states from within. A gem of the Archaic and Classical Greek Era that we have come to discover. While the country thrived, they also had much tension from within caused by its two leading cities, Athens and Sparta. Athens, a democratic and well invested political city found apprehension with their neighboring municipality Sparta, a highly dense military society. Though the two cities shared several traits such as slavery and gradation systeming, they were separated by their political and economic differences.
In Ancient Greece, Sparta, had laws that when you were born you were to be examined for any defects. If you had any you were to be thrown down in a valley to die, and if you were the first born male of your family you were put in a military camp to be trained for further uses. This took away their human rights on living free if you are a man, and if you are a woman you were to stay in the town and be a “house-wife.” The Spartan government wanted to make the city a stronger unit by taking away job choices. The Spartan government was a great government because, they trained young boys to be warriors, their population couldn’t have any flaws, and the people didn’t have a choice in job.
Sparta is better than Athens because Spartan army was very much better and protective, girls received some education, and women had more freedom than in any other poleis. The army of Sparta was the strongest army in Greece. Beginning at the age of seven, young boys were sent from their families to live in military barracks.
Can you imagine getting taken away from your family at age 7? Well it was normal for yong boys in Sparta. They had to go and be apart of their army. They are taught from the moment they are taken away that the only way to survive is to kill and fight. School also did not matter, it was all based off of if you can take care of the grovernment and protect it.

Currently there is a great debate happening about Athens and Sparta. Some people believe that Athens is a better city state. After examining both positions, it is a evident that Sparta is better than Athens, because Sparta had a more efficient education, government and economy. Spartans oligarchy surpassed the Athenians government in many ways.

The Spartans devoted all their time to the military, partaking in military training, hunting and war battles. They lived a frugal lifestyle and without any luxuries. They were taught to be brave and courageous at a very young age, soon evolving into soldiers for the military.
The education of Sparta varied in strengths and in weaknesses. The Sparta’s were first located in southern Greece called the Peloponnese. In this colony, the Sparta’s only vision was bloodthirsty war and violence. At the age of seven, a young boy is removed from his family and is expected, from his 8th to his 21st year, become educated to a brutal military-like discipline. Therefore, regarding the education in Sparta, the weaknesses outweighed the strength because the Spartan’s didn’t value family morals, the basics of reading and writing were taught, and the upbringing of Spartan boys was cruel and painful.
Athens and Sparta, located between the Aegean and the Ionian Sea, allied with each other in the Greco-Persian war. Due to the advanced and powerful navy of Athens incorporation with the well-built army of Sparta, they gained victory over the Persian Empire. After the victory, Athens gained wealth and dominance over the other Greek societies causing tensions between Sparta. They both share similarities towards their cultural background but had different views in creating an ideal society in addition to their state’s place in the world. Moreover, they differ from the concepts of a well trained or educated society and a well built military, but share similarities in their government format.

Firstly, Sparta had harsh military training for their children. In Sparta, you were taken away at the age of 8 and you would stay in training until you are 21. When you leave for training, you go into an agoge, which is a state controlled education. While in the agoge, you have a troop leader who is an older soldier.
I would like to educate the masses on a matter of frequent debate. This is none other then Athens vs Sparta, and I can say the thorough research and facts have lead me to concluded that Sparta is a much better city-state then Athens. Sparta is better then Athens because of its respect of women, more equal school system, integrity of government, treatment of slaves, and superior military. First of all, women were given far more rights than in Athens. First of all, Women in Sparta could own there own land, participate in politics and the olympics among other things.
Sparta was abusive to children, and any society that abuses its citizens shouldn’t last, and Sparta didn’t. Sparta was a Greek city-state whose sole purpose was military strength. While Sparta lasted for 300 years, any strong society would last longer. They also abused their slaves and killed them with no warning. The weaknesses weighed Sparta down, so here are some of those weaknesses.
