In the “Trifles” there are many difference and similarities to modern plays. From the use props and the time of the storyline. The modern concept of the drama in “Trifles” are shown by the characteristic of a women in society. Making it one of many plays that change throughout history.

To begin with, society has influence every men and women, in this play, because women were treated different in society throughout the play. Throughout the story, the County Attorney and Hale didn’t believe Ms. Wright when she told him that she didn’t feel nothing. Across the entire play, they use a word that was influence by society. In this scene, Mrs. Hale said, “My sister Bessie was like that. Queer, ain’t it?” and Mrs. Hale continuously say, “I might have known she needed help! I know how things can be-for women. I tell you, it’s queer, Mrs. Peter.” This showed that in every part of the play they use the modern dialogue compared to the Greek where they use more stichomythia dialogue.

In addition, society at that time didn’t believe in abuse and divorce. Like most people, they didn’t believe that a man could hurt their loving wife’s. In the play, Mrs. Peters said, “We don’t know who killed the bird” Mrs. Hale said, “I knew John Wright.” This showed that John Wright’s not only killed the bird but killed Mrs. Wright in the inside as well.
