It is in those tough times that our faith is tested and faith not tested is a faith that cannot be trusted. Daniel’s faith was tested, and he passed the test with flying colors. The Bible tells us to persevere,
On September 25th David was arrested for vandalizing property and for burglary. David’s case became so popular in North Carolina because during his trial the state did not provide him with a lawyer. When David appeared in court he was informed of all the charges against him. The court also showed the footage of the defendants house where someone had entered his house to destroy his property and to steal.
As the first half of the fourth century approached, many frequent disputes and temporary alliances between conflicting groups in Greek cities resulted due to their own independent interests. In 360 B.C., Philip II was crowned king of Macedonia, who in less than a decade was able to defeat most of Macedonia 's neighboring enemies, including the Paionians, Illyrians and the Thracians. It was in 338 B.C when Philip II completed what was known as the last segment of his dominance, he became known as the indisputable ruler of Macedonia. His plans for expansion and war against Asia were cut short due to his assassination in 336 B.C. The reign of Alexander the Great, son of Philip II, would change the aspect of Europe and Asia forever.
(Halsall para. 35). For example, Ramses' fighters defeated his enemies through the help of his god, Ammon. Similarly, when the soldiers understood that their leaders were supported by gods, they gained courage. Ramses also prayed at the beginning of the war and encouraged his soldiers “Halt, take courage, charioteer” (Halsall para. 39).
He explained, “we are not weak, if we make proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. Three millions of people [...] and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. ”(23) This is important because this shows that God has given them the power to overcome any force if they fight together.
In 334, Alexander embarked on his Asiatic expedition, arriving in Troy that spring. Alexander then faced Persian King Darius III 's army near the Grancius River; Darius ' forces were swiftly defeated. By fall, Alexander and his army had made it across the southern coast of Asia Minor to Gordium, where they took the winter to rest. In the summer of 333, the troops of Alexander and Darius once again went head to head in battle at Issus. Although Alexander 's army was outnumbered, he used his flair for military strategy to create formations that defeated the Persians again and caused Darius to flee.
There was a time when people did the right thing, i.e., they prayed to God for their needs and trusted to his mercy and grace for the future. The Bible commends this, “...but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Philippians 4:6), and, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” (Ephesians 6:18), and, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19) The spirit of foolishness has led many to abandon God, and to rely on man’s efforts for their welfare and wellbeing, as if the past have taught them nothing.
In 2nd Chronicles 20:15 when all of Judah, Jerusalem and King Jehoshaphat were facing a battle the Lord told them do not worry the battle was not theirs but his. God has our backs in the battles we face in our lives today... God has already given you the
What would cause a 20-year-old, immediately after punishing the people who murdered his father, to invade Persia and eventually conquer it all? Arrian tends to believe and convey that it was a conquest of retaliation. Alexander wanted to invade and conquer Persia as they tried to conquer Greece 150 years earlier. One reason for this is because he wanted to continue with his father’s plan, but also so he could prove that Macedonians are just as much Greek as Athenians or Spartans. However, an underlying reason that Alexander would do this was because he wanted to become the King of all Asia to prove that he could accomplish the feat.
The book of Psalms was written to inspire the reader to the reality of how good, loving, gracious, merciful and faithful God is. This book also wakes the spirit of the reader to begin praising God by remembering His attributes, all the wonderful and good things God has done, and to stir the faith and hope of the people with expectation regarding the future coming of a king that will rule the Kingdom of God. The book of Psalms has a way of bringing the reader into the very presence of God by acknowledging the beauty of His presence, His unfathomable ways, His glory and His wisdom that can be seen throughout generations. With all that being said, this book should be our “go-to” devotion books every time we meditate on God and His words. It is
Here, David says the Lord is light and He is salvation which means He guides and provides deliverance. God will guide you with His word and he will answer all your tribulations. God also adds joy to people’s lives. “The LORD is the stronghold of my life,” He provides with a source of strength to overcome difficult times in your life. Furthermore, He will show you the right path to take when you’re facing troubles in your life.
"The King does not understand how others feel?" Sir Tristan, nay, all the knights of Britain are mistaken. Why had it not occurred to any of you that the King was another person of Britain like the rest of you, said Sir Lancelot. The young squire overheard this blasphemy. There was an ong-tongue about the King, that he is not human.
In the books of first and second samuel there several attitudes toward having a monarchy in Israel. In the begining of 1 samuel the people of Israel are practically begging for a king ( Samuel 1:5 “...Give us a king to judge us like all the other nations have”). Samuel replied to the people warning them the dangers of having a king and that the king would make the people work where they don’t want to work, draft their sons into the army, and take their livestock. Even after listening to what Samuel had to say the people still wanted a king, and eventually they got what they wanted in Saul. Initially the people are pleased with the tall, humble, and handsome king, but the attitude starts to change when he takes a foolish oath ( Samuel 1:24
As King George V’s life comes closer to an end, the successor to him must be named. When his first born son, David (Edward VIII), accepts but then later declines the responsibility of king (on account that he is married to a divorcee and being the head of the Church of England would contradict that), it is passed on to his younger brother, Albert (or Bertie, as he is known by his family) (King George VI). Even though he is a smart, passionate man, his stammer doesn’t portray confidence to the public, and if they are to go to war with Hitler and his armies, that is a necessity. Elizabeth, Bertie’s wife, desperately wants Bertie to feel more confident and comfortable speaking at public events, whether or not he becomes king, so she applies for
