Things are a little different when you are driving a motorcycle, bike, school bus, or a truck carrying hazardous materials. With a motorcycle or a bike approach the crossing with caution, and do not swerve to get a better angle for crossing. For a school bus, you must stop at every crossing. Look both ways and when it is all clear you may pass. With a truck carrying hazardous materials, slow down safely and go only when it is completely clear.
Sarah Foreman Professor Olson Composition II 1120-8 February 2, 2023 Analysis of “Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Space” by Brent Staples The essay “Just Walk on By: Black Men and Public Space '' by Brent Staples is an essay (within the 50 Essays 5th edition by Cohen) describing the author’s experience with people perceiving him as a criminal or at least a likely one throughout his life. The first paragraph starts off with him describing his “first victim,” a young white woman in 1973 who ran from a twenty-two year old Staples who was out for a night walk. In his essay, “Just Walk on By: A Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space”, Brent Staples uses the rhetorical strategies of anecdote and diction in order to convey his message that due to racial discrimination black people (mainly men) have to change the way they naturally conduct themselves in public for they run the risk of something terrible happening to them. Staples uses anecdotes to bring in the personal side of the message to the audience. Staples creates a persona of innocence and almost alienation in his writing. Anecdotes such as his both instances in which he accidently scared women on walks and the time in which he and another reporter were mistaken for murder suspects or robbers are used to show real life proof of his message.

Even if you don’t live in a city where there isn’t railroad crossing, it’s still smart to know how to cross them safely because sometime in your life you’ll some traveling somewhere. Railroad crossings, they can be extremely dangerous but they are there because trains are such a valuable part of modern day transportation. One of the first things is never go under or around the gates when they are down, this applies to both pedestrians and vehicles. When approaching a railroad crossing turn down your radio and check both ways make sure you can see at least a mile down the tracks.
More people each year get driver's licenses. However, that also means that every year more people are at risk of getting hurt at railroad crossings. Railroad crossings can be very dangerous and you have to take many precautions because of that. Some of these precautions include: slowing down when you come to a railroad crossing, for safety, don’t park closer than 50 feet from a railroad crossing, and do not ever drive through, around, or under any crossing gate or barrier at a railroad crossing while they are down or being opened or closed. Those are just a couple out of many, many precautions that you should take at railroad crossings so that you can be safe.
