Every person has a unique personality. It is good for students to express themselves because schools should allow everyone to feel comfortable in their own shoes. Schools should not have dress codes unless it has exceeded inappropriateness. Students goals are for other students to express their personality to make them feel comfortable.
They also need to stop targeting and sexualizing teenage girls with the dress code. Growing up school dress code has taught females from a young age that they should cover their bodies, and that their bodies are “distracting” to not only their classmates, but to society in general.
School Dress codes do not allow students to completely express their individuality. Schools want students to be able to think for themselves and create a sense of who they are, but it is not easy when they are forced to abide by rules that take away from from that. It should be a place of expressing ourselves freely in a learning environment without having to worry about what we wear as an interfering issue. The fact that the school system cares more about the student dress code than their education is an issue in itself. Schools should promote dress code individuality because of religious aspects, mental health, and human experience.
For some people, maybe leggings are all they can afford, but they cannot wear them to school without having to wear a tunic over them that goes to their knees. When a female student is taller, it then becomes
Are school dress codes too strict? Over 75% of schools have harsh dress codes, that means only 25% of schools have reasonable dress codes for students. “Students should have freedom but there should be boundaries”(Fiske). Harsh dress codes can cause students and parents to think it is stupid and schools should not have a dress code but then there would be too much freedom for the kids that are still maturing. This shows that it is best for kids to have dress codes that are reasonable.
I believe that being able to wear hood should be acceptable. I have logic reasons for this to change the dress code. The reasons why I believe that this should be common because it’s comfortable for wearing, use for cold classrooms, and for outside gym use. We aren’t allowed to wear hoods in school and that should change. First of all, wearing a hood over your head is pleasant.
Some girls also complain that dress codes are not as strict with boys as with girls. Boys can wear shorts and muscle shirts without penalty, even if the rules state otherwise, while girls have various limitations. Not only do boys have fewer penalties with the dress codes, but they are one of the primary reasons why girls cannot freely wear what they prefer. Boys influence what girls should not be
The only thing they can’t wear is shirts with no sleeves. Boys Dress Code is not strict like the girls Dress Code. The guys could wear pretty much anything to school. However, some people agree with Dress Code because boys could wear ripped jeans and not distracted anyone. When girls wear these things, people get distracted.
Dress codes are a necessary aspect of school, and they help teenagers to focus more in school. Rules for how to dress prevent boys and girls from being distracted by fancy clothing. Often times, girls tend to focus on what other girls are wearing and how other girls may look super attractive or trashy. In addition, boys look at girls who are dressed in very releasing clothing. Whether the person is a boy or girl, both become distracted by revealing or poor clothing.
Dress codes ¨...reinforce that girls are expected to act to a different standard than boys, and that boys are incapable of controlling themselves around girls,” said the Huffington Post. For example, in some schools girls have to wear a one-piece in the pool but guys can go shirtless. Dress codes also limit
Teens should be able to wear clothes they want and not what the schools want. In the first place, teens should be able to express themselves in many ways. Having a dress code makes it so teens can’t fully express themselves through their clothes. Now people can and do express themselves many different ways but you can tell a lot from a person just from the way they dress.
Dress codes don’t stop the problems they are implemented for such as bullying and fighting, the violence actually raises after it’s enforced. Also, dress codes definitely target girls way more than boys. According to the research it stated that girls are more likely to get in trouble for violating dress code and will face such consequences as being pulled out of class, asked to change, sent home, or could possibly be suspended. In addition to that, having dress codes can promote conformity and infringe on students' rights to express themselves how they want to. But, the good thing about dress codes is that they promote safety and can help student’s focus.
Having dress codes can also be uncomfortable especially with changes in weather throughout the school year. Most dress codes involve long pants for the boys and skirts for girls. During warm summers it can get real hot wearing long pants and in the winter, the girls would not be comfortable wearing skirts in freezing temperatures. To pay attention in school you need to be comfortable in what you are wearing without distractions. There is also the burden and additional expense to parents with students wearing dress codes for school and the other clothes after school which could double family budgets.
With most of the clothes being catered to us, not typically fitting the school dress code, it makes choosing outfits difficult for girls. Girls either have to do extra work to search for rule abiding clothes or add clothing layers to non school appropriate clothing which can add heat and draw more attention because people are “distracted” by the curiosity of whether or not a dress or top has spaghetti straps. Lots of clothing shops have a minimal selection of what fits the rules of school dress clothes which also might mean that parents have to spend more money on clothes to purchase them from school appropriate
Most boys that I see will wear shorts all year and a teacher never dress codes them for not wearing appropriate clothes for the season. However, when a girl wears shorts for the appropriate season she gets dresscoded. Holding females to a higher standard than males is like holding female politicians to a higher standard than male politicians. If a girl wants to wear shorts on a hot day, let her. If a girl wants to wear a tank top because it is going to be 90 degrees on Tuesday, let her.
