Why The Driving Age Should Stay At 18

In Virginia the legal driving age is sixteen years old, which some people agree with, while others do not. The driving age should not be increased to eighteen for many reasons. Along with being able to drive comes with huge responsibilities; the younger teenagers get exposed to these responsibilities, the better off they will be. Although parents and citizens may not think teenagers are ready to drive at 16, they would be surprised at how mature a 16 year old teenager really is. Many schools require driver’s education classes and do behind-the-wheel training which helps and makes sure teenagers be ready to drive at 16. The driving age should not be increased from 16-18 because driving at a young age teaches responsibility, allows them to become more experienced, and allows them to keep up with their busy schedule. There are many responsibilities that come along with receiving your drivers license such as curfew, traffic tickets, gas money, insurance, and other financial requirements. By driving at 16 it will teach drivers to be more cautious and aware of these things and to become more responsible. If teenagers are able to drive at 16 versus 18, they are allowed more time to become experienced and perfect their driving. It has been said that the more educated drivers, who has driven longer, has had less crashes than someone who didn't have the time to practice and become experienced. On average it takes 10-15 years to become a better driver. The earlier you are exposed to the atmosphere and awareness of driving, the better a driver may become.
