I chose to write about Abolished Slavery because it's the most important to me. I think its the most important because ending slavery gave slaves a life and that is important. Starting to try and Abolish Slavery started in 1863 when Abraham Lincoln was president. Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclomation declaring "all persons held as slaves within any state should be forever free." Lincoln knew the Emancipation Proclamation had to be followed by a constitutional amendment in order to guarantee abolishment of slavery.

The 13th amendment was passed at the end of the Civil War, before the Southern States had been restored. Slavery was officially abolished April 8, 1864. Even though the senate passed it in 1864, the house did not. Lincoln took a role to ensure passage through congress. In other Reconstruction Amendments, the 13th amendment was rarely cited in later case law. The 13th amendment applies to actions of private citizens while the 14th and 15th amendments apply only to State Actors. The amendments allows Congress to pass laws to prohibit sex trafficking and other forms of slavery. The institution of slavery existed in all of the original British North American Colonies. The United States Constitution adopted in 1789 did not expressly use words like slave or slavery. The Three-Fifths compromise was allocated congressional based "on the whole number of free slaves" and "three-fifths of all other people." This cause was a compromise between southerners who wished slaves to be counted as a whole
