The Roman people were the most successful civilization. One reason they were successful is that they conquered almost all of the mediterranean civilization. Another reason they were a great empire is that they let the people of the city vote on the decisions of the senate, consuls, and ruler. The final reason Rome was the best ancient civilization that they had very interesting war tactics that have helped them win many battles.

Julius Caesar conquered many civilizations such as Spain and Gaul, which later became France and Belgium. When his great-uncle, Julius Caesar was killed in 44 B.C, Augustus, at the age of 17, was named as his adoptive son and heir. He declared war on Egypt after his sister's husband, Marc Antony, divorced her in order to be with Cleopatra. When Antony and Cleopatra committed suicide, Caesar Augustus became the first Roman Emperor, the sole ruler of Rome. Like his adopted father, Caesar Augustus had a month named after him (August). At the time of his death, he had doubled the size of his empire.
Attila
Attila and his brother shared the role of king of the Hun Empire when their uncle, King Roas, died. In order to have all power, Attila scheduled to have his brother murdered. His goal was to gather his people in order to create a feared and formidable Asian army to take down the Roman Empire, who referred to him as the Scourge of God. Under his leadership, his barbaric army upset the Roman Empire and crushed Europe. Most of the ideas and structures of their government became the basis for modern civilizations. The Roman Republic had a lot of leaders with the main ones being Julius Caesar and Caesar Augustus, that helped them govern the civilization. The highest positions in the Roman government were the two consuls, who ruled the Roman Republic. Ancient Rome was also known for telling everyone that they were republican people, not ruled by kings, but by people themselves.
War Tactics
In the early days of the Roman Republic, military tactics were influenced by the methods used by the successful Greek army. The combat formation used by the Greeks and Romans was called the phalanx. This involved the soldiers standing side by side in ranks. Just before fighting with the enemy, the soldiers moved in groups, very close together so that each person’s shield helped to protect the man on his left side. But in the end, the greatest war tactic they had was their strategy of keeping their soldiers alive.
