Mandela could not be considered an ancient hero because his heroism didn’t come from nepotism from the gods. Mandela earned his power and he wasn't fed his heroism by a silver spoon. Mandela didn’t need the gods to approve of his heroism or set him up for success. Mandela endured brutality and suffering to make his actions speak louder to the people than words. Mandela experienced agonizing suffering that most people couldn’t even contemplate and a lot of the ancient heros didn’t suffer immensely to empower them. Mandela acted on his own and brought himself to have the voice that has impacted today. Mandela’s strong beliefs in nonviolence would not be tolerated as a characteristic of ancient heroism because ancient heroes acted violently and belligerent to get their ideas across versus modern day heros use a nonviolent approach to convey their message more lucidly. Mandela also could not be considered an ancient hero because Mandela wasn’t from divine ancestry. Mandela grew up in a tribe and this is immensely significant because he had perspective on what it was like to struggle and live impoverished. Growing up in a tribe shaped Mandela.
