Abortion was legalized on January 22, 1973. This law was very controversial at the time, and divided the nation on opposing sides. The idea that drives many to believe that abortion is right, is that the embryo or fetus is not a human being. This belief should be wrong in the mind of many because it is still an execution of a life and as Dr. Seuss once said, “A person is a person, no matter how small”. First of all, the main reason people abort is because they are not ready to raise a child. These couples do not have the finances to raise a child, it was an accident, or they are just not ready. The surgery used to abort the baby only cost on average $483 compared to the thousands of dollars needed to raise a child. Abortion is classified as a safe medical procedure, but there are still many risks associated with this decision. The surgery can cause many problems in the uterus and range from infections, heavy bleeding, rips, and clots, to the inability to bear a child again. This situation is unfortunate, but contacting a doctor immediately after the attack can ensure the prevention of a pregnancy. This ends the possibility of an abortion and available at a Planned Parenthood, which specializes in preventing pregnancies (preventing fertilization), therefore, giving the name Planned Parenthood. These methods either prevent a sperm cell from ever reaching an egg cell or prevent ovulation. At this medical center these treatments are done alongside with abortion, and leads many to believe that the preventing of the fertilization of an egg (Planning Parenthood) is the same as an abortion. This however contradicts the supporters of abortion’s original belief and is basically a scapegoat to show abortion is okay.
