Why We Shouldn T Cyberbullying Be A Criminal Offense?

The talk of cyberbullying can be a controversial topic since its a person behind a screen and not a person being up front about. But, i still think it should be taken as serious as real bullying. Even though it's behind a screen that's still a person doing the harassment to the victim and should still be taken serious. It should have consequences and shouldn't be taken lightly because cyberbullying can lead to depression, suicide , trauma , and insecurities to the victim. And these are the reasons why i think cyberbullying should be a criminal offense. According to www.nih.gov “youth who are the targets of cyber bullying at school are at greater risk for depression than are the youth who bully them”.Based on that information cyberbullying has a pretty big effect on the victim. It leads to depression because its a constant thing over the internet. Going home to check up on social media and seeing a lot of hate or seeing a not so pleasant picture of you being shared around by people is not a good thing at all and it doesn’t feel good either . having that being thrown at you constantly can lead to being depressed which is such a terrible feeling to be in. being …show more content…

In this article it states that “ Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year” Lots of kids or teens being cyberbullied leads to that and it's such a tragedy to have someone so young take their life away.The person harassing the victim either thinks it's all fun and games or they may actually be dealing with stuff at home but that shouldn’t give the right to bullying someone innocent over the internet constantly that they have to take their own life for it. The person should get a criminal offense charge because they drove someone to kill themselves. Yes, it may be drastic but it is at fault to the person harassing the victim to lead them to killing themselves for something they
