The Super Bowl is a much debated event each year. Who will make it to the big game, what will the final score be and who will win? These are only a few of the many things discussed at dinner tables and in offices across the country. Once the game is over, talk turns to the most valuable player, why the winning team succeeded and the greatest plays of the game. In fact, much debate surrounds the 5 best Super Bowl plays of all time. Following are five that many believe should top the list.

Super Bowl XXXIV

With the St. Louis Rams up by 7, many thought the game was over in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Steve McNair hasn't given up though and moves his team down the field to the 10 yard line with six seconds left. Are they going to tie the game? They …show more content…

Eli Manning didn't agree, throwing a pass to Plaxico Buress. The Giants won 17-24 and sent the Patriots home without the perfect season they had envisioned. It's easy to see why many consider this to be one of the best Super Bowl plays of all time.

Super Bowl XVII

Although the Redskins had already blown their perfect season, losing one game during the regular season, many believed they would win the Super Bowl. It didn't look that way, however, as they were facing a fourth and one in the fourth quarter. They didn't want to punt, but the ball was on the Dolphins 43. A field goal was out of the question. They opted to go for it, handing the ball to John Riggins, and won the game 27-17.

Super Bowl XXVIII

Often the defense gets overlooked when they make big plays that lead to a score, yet this isn't the case when it comes to James Washington. Thurman Thomas got the ball when the Bills were up by six, and many thought they would win. That's when the fumble happened and Washington returned it for a touchdown. It changed the momentum of the game, which the Cowboys won 30-13.
