AI, like other new forms of technology, is meant to make life easier for humans. For instance, once a computer gets to know its user, the computer will suggest certain things on search engines like Google. Technology, including AI, can also help store information, monitor trends, and even interact in such a way that it can make a positive impact on a hospital patient with a certain illness.
I Robot, directed by Alex Proyas, is a film that shows how modern technology will advance within the years; making people question their everyday lifestyle. In I Robot, the main character Detective Del Spooner, had us follow his journey on questioning societal expectations. Therefore, this caused a domino effect which made Dr. Susan Calvin question everything she grew up learning, along with studying. This all began from the creation that Dr. Alfred Lanning, who created the robots as well as the Virtual Interactive Kinetic Intelligence, referred to as V.I.K.I. The main NS5 robot in the movie is named Sonny who also questioned his purpose of life as a robot.
Douglas employs notable examples to support his claims and rightfully proves why AI is not as risky as seen by the public. David Parnas’ “The Real Risks of Artificial Intelligence” focuses on the unseen negative aspects of Artificial Intelligence. He argues that AI programs can be untrustworthy and even in some cases, destructive due to the programming approach that programmers take. While Parnas is negative about the concept of Artificial Intelligence, Eldridge see Artificial Intelligence in a brighter light. Both authors present their arguments differently in terms of tone, level of diction, examples and organization.
A important note is that “We must realize that stopping an AI from developing consciousness is not the same as stopping it from developing the capac¬ity to cause harm”(Davies). If we stop the capacity to cause harm, the image of Artificial Intelligence will look more positive as it will be used for good. As artificial intelligence are tested more superintelligence should be developed only for the benefit of all of humanity and in the service of widely shared ideals. The concept and understanding of AI should be explain to everyone so they understand the idea. If they were taught or learned what it artificial intelligence was, maybe they would still not fear it.

Rise of Artificial Intelligence and Ethics: Literature Review The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, authored by Nick Bostrom and Eliezer Yudkowsky, as a draft for the Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence, introduces five (5) topics of discussion in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ethics, including, short term AI ethical issues, AI safety challenges, moral status of AI, how to conduct ethical assessment of AI, and super-intelligent Artificial Intelligence issues or, what happens when AI becomes much more intelligent than humans, but without ethical constraints? This topic of ethics and morality within AI is of particular interest for me as I will be working with machine learning, mathematical modeling, and computer simulations for my upcoming summer internship at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Norco, California. After I complete my Master Degree in 2020 at Northeastern University, I will become a full time research engineer working at this navy laboratory. At the suggestion of my NSWC mentor, I have opted to concentrate my master’s degree in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Algorithm Development, technologies which are all strongly associated with AI.
